MTN GHANA UNVEILS GAME-CHANGING SELF-SERVICE SIM SWAP PLATFORM

24/7 Digital Access, Biometric Security, and Zero Queues Set to Transform Customer Experience Nationwide
In a bold leap toward digital transformation, MTN Ghana has officially launched its innovative Self-Service SIM Swap platform,an initiative designed to eliminate long queues, enhance security, and give customers full control over their mobile services.
The landmark rollout took place simultaneously across six major cities,Accra, Kasoa, Koforidua, Kumasi, Ho, and Tamale-highlighting MTN’s commitment to expanding convenient and accessible telecom services nationwide.
Delivering remarks at the launch,Jemima Kotei Walsh described the platform as a “transformational milestone” in customer service delivery. She revealed that MTN Ghana processes an estimated 250,000 SIM swap requests monthly,an overwhelming demand the new system is designed to streamline.
“With this solution, customers no longer need to visit service centres. They can now complete SIM swaps independently, anytime and anywhere,” she noted.
The self-service system is expected to significantly reduce congestion at MTN outlets, cut waiting times, and improve overall service efficiency. Early success from a pilot phase-where over 18,000 customers completed SIM swaps independently, demonstrates strong user acceptance and confidence in the platform.
The initiative has also received regulatory backing. Beatrice Hemen of the National Communications Authority welcomed the innovation, citing frequent complaints related to SIM swaps.
She emphasized that empowering customers to handle the process themselves marks a major step forward in consumer protection and service transparency.
Reinforcing MTN’s digital vision, CEO Stephen Blewett highlighted the platform’s key advantages, including round-the-clock access, rapid SIM replacement for lost or damaged cards, and usability for customers both within Ghana and abroad.
Security remains at the core of the system. The platform integrates advanced biometric facial recognition technology to authenticate users, ensuring that only legitimate SIM owners can initiate swaps. This innovation is expected to drastically reduce fraud and unauthorized SIM access linked to identity theft.
Customers can access the service conveniently via the myMTN App or by dialing *1333#, where a guided, step-by-step process ensures a seamless experience.
The event concluded with a live demonstration of the platform, showcasing its simplicity, speed, and reliability, further cementing MTN Ghana’s position as a leader in digital innovation and customer-centric solutions in the telecom industry.
