Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has intensified his push for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), rallying executives in the Western Region with a bold message: competence, not eloquence, must guide the party’s next leadership choice.
Addressing a charged gathering of party executives, the three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman urged delegates to focus on proven political strength and grassroots mobilization capacity rather than fluency in the “Queen’s English.”

“This election is not for the books,” he declared. “It is for those who are tried, tested, and ready to work tirelessly for victory.”
A Call for Battle-Ready Leadership
Wontumi framed the 2028 general elections as a defining moment for the NPP following its 2024 defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the party needs a national chairman who embodies resilience, strategic thinking, and relentless grassroots engagement.
“Don’t judge me based on certificates. Judge me on my competency and what I can do for the growth of the party,” he emphasized.

He argued that the current political climate demands leadership that inspires hope and re-energizes the base, stressing that he is “built for the battle ahead.”
Highlighting his political journey, from a two-term Constituency Chairman to an unprecedented three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman-Wontumi insisted his years of service have equipped him with the experience necessary to reposition the NPP for victory in 2028.
He pledged not to compromise on any strategy that would enhance the party’s appeal to voters nationwide.
Reflecting on the party’s 2024 electoral setback, Wontumi said the experience has strengthened his resolve to work toward securing victory in 2028 and helping Mahamudu Bawumia become Ghana’s next president.
“As National Chairman, my focus will be on the constituencies,” he noted. “The General Secretary will manage the headquarters, but my duty will be with the people, mobilizing every vote for 2028.”
In a significant boost to his campaign, the Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, Francis Ndede Siah, described Wontumi as a true grassroots leader who understands the pulse of the party’s base.
He offered what observers interpreted as a tacit endorsement, pledging his support and resources toward Wontumi’s bid for the national chairmanship.
With his “competence over certificates” mantra gaining traction, Chairman Wontumi’s Western Region tour signals an aggressive and unapologetic campaign style-one centered on grassroots strength, battle readiness, and a singular focus on reclaiming power for the NPP in 2028.
