15-Year-Old BECE Candidate Faints After Giving Birth at Exam Center:
A disturbing incident has been reported from the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti Region, where a 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate of Yabi M/A School fainted shortly after giving birth at an examination center.
The incident occurred on the first day of the 2025 BECE at Kromoase, drawing attention to the growing concern of teenage pregnancy in the region. According to local sources, the young girl went into labor and gave birth before sitting for her paper, but later collapsed due to complications.
This is not an isolated case. The Ashanti Region has consistently recorded high rates of teenage pregnancies. Between 2018 and 2019 alone, over 1,000 cases were reported, highlighting an ongoing social and public health issue.
Despite these challenges, several pregnant girls and lactating mothers are participating in this year’s BECE across the region, demonstrating their determination to pursue education against all odds.
The information available specify that a 15-year-old student is now discharged after receiving medical attention from Aburaso Methodist Hospital.
