Asante Kotoko legend Opoku Nti shares the same ideas as former captain Gyamfi about club players’ recruitment

Asante Kotoko legend Opoku Nti recently voiced strong criticism towards the current players, suggesting that some of them fail to meet the esteemed standards associated with the Porcupine Warriors, consequently leading to the team’s recent string of poor results.

The team has endured a challenging winless streak of seven games, amplifying the pressure on head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and the players alike. This poor run has effectively eliminated them from contention for the league title, instead placing them uncomfortably close to the relegation zone, with only three points separating them from the bottom three.

Nti, addressing the team’s recent struggles, expressed his belief that certain players are not meeting the club’s standards and are not exhibiting sufficient effort to improve.

“Kotoko should always go for the best players due to the high expectations and the club’s standards. Looking at the performance of some of the players, it is clear that they are not suitable for Kotoko,” he stated in an interview with Connect FM.

He urged the players to exert more effort in reaching the level expected by the club to achieve the desired results. “Whether or not you are a fit for the club, if you lack ambition and are not striving for excellence, it affects the team’s mentality. The current players have a different mindset from ours,” Opoku Nti emphasised.

“If you are content with sitting on the bench just to collect a paycheck, it creates a lack of competition within the team, which in turn impacts the overall standard,” he added.
On April 15th, Former Captain of the club Emmanuel Gyamfi also made similar option about the current state of Kotoko players.
“But with new players coming in, mostly inexperienced, they will need time to gel. However, Kotoko isn’t about that.
” All that the fans know is winning all the time, so you buy experienced and quality players for them because they can’t wait for these young ones to grow; they only want the results,” Gyamfi explained in an exclusive interview with
