CATHOLIC BISHOP PETITIONS GOV’T: “DON’T DISADVANTAGE PRIVATE SCHOOLS”

Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene says private and public school students are all Ghanaians and deserve equal educational support

The Catholic Bishop of the Goaso Diocese in the Ahafo Region, Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, has appealed to the government to ensure that private schools are not disadvantaged in the implementation of educational policies and support programmes.

According to the Bishop, students in private and public schools are all Ghanaians and should therefore have equal access to educational support from the government.

Speaking during the celebration of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Our Lady of Victory Grotto at Manfo in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality, Most Rev. Atuahene urged the government to include private schools whenever educational interventions and support packages are introduced.

“Private school students and government school students are all Ghanaians. So, if there is any help in terms of educational support, private schools must not be left out or disadvantaged,” he said.

    Call for Youth Discipline

The celebration, held under the theme “Mary, A Woman of Peace, A Model for Our Christian Life,” also featured a strong call for young people to stay away from social vices that could jeopardise their future.

Addressing the gathering, the Director and Parish Priest of the Our Lady of Victory Grotto, Rev. Fr. David Owusu Asante, expressed concern over the increasing abuse of drugs and other substances among young people.

He mentioned the misuse of substances including glue, marijuana and tramadol as some of the challenges confronting the youth.

Rev. Fr. Owusu Asante stressed the need for parents, religious leaders and society at large to provide young people with proper guidance, education and spiritual support.

“Our youth need prayers and good teaching to direct their lives. If we fail to guide them, Ghana will lack the future leaders we are expecting,” he cautioned.

Faithful Pray for Peace and National Development

The Feast of the Assumption brought together hundreds of Catholic faithful, political leaders and traditional authorities from various parts of the Ahafo and Ashanti Regions.

The gathering was marked by prayers for peace, unity, stability and national development, with participants reflecting on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her example of faith, humility and peace.

The celebration also provided an opportunity for the faithful to renew their commitment to Christian values and pray for the progress and prosperity of Ghana.
