Wassa Amenfi East MCE Hands Over 220KV Generator to Wassa Akropong Government Hospital

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wassa Amenfi East, Raymond Nana Ebbah, has handed over a brand new 220KV generator to the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital to help improve electricity supply at the facility.

The generator is expected to serve as an alternative power source during outages, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare delivery and supporting emergency services at the hospital.
Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah emphasized that quality healthcare remains one of his top priorities and assured residents of the municipality of continued support for the hospital and other critical sectors.

In recent times, Wassa Akropong, the capital of Wassa Amenfi East, has been experiencing erratic electricity supply due to faulty transformers and other electrical equipment, affecting residents, businesses, and public institutions.

Despite the challenges, the municipal assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, has been engaging regional and national authorities to push for improved service delivery from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The assembly has also supported initiatives aimed at expanding electricity access and reducing power outages within the municipality.

The MCE further disclosed that the Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi and the management of the hospital appealed to the assembly through him for assistance to secure a stable power supply for the facility.

According to him, the hospital’s old 100KV generator had been out of service for decades, leaving staff stranded during power outages.
Through support from some individuals, the assembly was able to procure and hand over the new 220KV generator to the hospital on Monday, May 11, 2026.

Receiving the generator on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Prince Asante expressed appreciation to the MCE for the timely intervention, noting that the new generator would significantly improve operations at the facility.

He explained that the recent unstable power supply had negatively affected healthcare delivery, revealing that staff were sometimes compelled to transfer pregnant women in labour to other health facilities because surgical procedures could not be carried out during blackouts.

Dr. Prince Asante assured the public that management would ensure proper maintenance of the newly acquired generator to guarantee its long-term use.

Also speaking at the event, Nana Kwaku Pepra, chief of Farmers, a suburb of Wassa Akropong, commended the MCE for his developmental efforts across the municipality.

According to him, traditional leaders in Wassa Amenfi had already initiated efforts to address the hospital’s power challenges. He disclosed that attempts were previously made to repair the faulty 100KV generator through the Tretrete Foundation, founded by Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, but the repair works were unsuccessful.

He, however, indicated that efforts to repair the old generator would continue so it could serve as a backup to the newly installed 220KV generator, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply at the hospital.
