Residents and market women at Kona, a community in the Sekyere South District near Agona, are urgently appealing to government and stakeholders to fix their deplorable market, which has been left in ruins for nearly three decades.

According to them, since 1996, when the old market structure collapsed, they have been forced to trade in the open, exposed to harsh weather conditions. They describe the situation as shameful and embarrassing, noting that the current state of the market does not reflect the dignity of the Kona community.

Market women say the lack of a proper market facility has affected business growth, income levels, and sanitary conditions, putting their health at risk.

Beyond the market crisis, residents also lament the poor condition of public toilet facilities and deteriorating school buildings, urging authorities to intervene immediately.

It is very disgraceful to show anyone that this is our market. We have suffered for too long,” one trader said.
