Agogoso, a vibrant community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, came alive over the weekend as hundreds of residents poured out to participate in the November edition of the National Sanitation Day.

The exercise-led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak- recorded an impressive turnout and earned widespread praise for uniting stakeholders and residents toward a cleaner, healthier environment.

Community in Action

The clean-up operation covered key parts of the community, where participants
swept streets, desilted gutters, cleared refuse sites, and tidied public spaces.
By the end of the exercise, Agogoso sparkled, establishing itself as a model of sanitation commitment within the district.

The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including:

Also present was Hon. Stephen Yeboah, Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission, who actively participated in the exercise, working alongside residents to reinforce the message of unity in improving communal sanitation.

Traditional authorities played a symbolic and motivating role throughout the exercise, inspiring many residents to join in and reaffirming the cultural expectation of collective community upkeep.

DCE Urges Continued Commitment

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak applauded the enthusiastic turnout and called on residents to treat sanitation as a shared responsibility rather than an occasional campaign.

He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment contributes immensely to public health, community development, and the national agenda to make Ghana a hub of sanitation excellence within West Africa.

“We must make this a priority if we want to prevent diseases and promote development. The government is committed, but we must support that vision from our homes and communities,” he said.

Unity Beyond Politics

Leadership expressed strong appreciation to the NDC executives of Atwima Mponua for their collaborative support toward the success of the program. Their presence and participation were widely applauded as a powerful example of non-partisan unity in the interest of collective progress.

Organizers highlighted that the success of this exercise demonstrates that community development transcends political lines-and flourishes when citizens unite with a shared purpose.

Residents, both young and old, showed remarkable dedication throughout the exercise, proving that patriotism is best demonstrated through service.

“Your patriotism made it happen,” organizers joyfully acknowledged, extending gratitude to all who devoted their time and energy.

A Call to Action

With Agogoso standing tall as a shining example of civic responsibility, leaders hope other communities across the district will be inspired to emulate this outstanding commitment to sanitation.

They stressed that community sanitation is not a one-time event, but an ongoing effort that requires consistent involvement to protect the environment, prevent disease, and promote sustainable development.
