A/R: Furniture shortage hits Asare Bediako SHS

Inadequate furniture has become a hindrance to effective teaching and learning in some pre-tertiary schools in the Ashanti Region including the Asare Bediako Senior High School in the Adansi North District.

The school has for some time now been grappling with a shortage of desks, forcing at least two students to share one mono desk, a situation officials say is negatively impacting learning and punctuality.

With about 600 desks serving over 1,500 students, the school wrote to the Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost seeking assistance.

In response, the church mobilised funds from 31 pastors and their wives to procure 200 desks, aiming to alleviate the furniture deficit and enhance the learning environment.

Prophet David Kankam Beditor, the area head of the Church of Pentecost, acknowledged the commitment of the 30 Pastors and their wives for contributing towards acquiring the desks.

He expressed optimism that the desks would contribute to providing quality education and a conducive learning environment for the students. Prophet Beditor urged teachers to persevere in delivering quality education despite the school’s limited resources.

He also advised students to work hard and protect the desks, ensuring their longevity.

The Asare Bediako Senior High School, established in 1993, faces challenges beyond furniture shortages. The school lacks proper toilet facilities, and the only available facility is in a deplorable state. Additionally, there is no dormitory for girls, necessitating their accommodation in rented apartments.

Despite academic excellence, the school’s unfenced premises expose students to potential attacks by town residents.

Dr Emmanuel Asiedu, the Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to the Pastors and their wives for the timely intervention, describing the donation as crucial.

He called on other benevolent groups and institutions to support the school in addressing its various challenges.
