SENE WEST: Forestry Research Institute of Ghana educates charcoal operators towards a sustainable charcoal production.

Charcoal operators in the Atebubu Amantin Municipality of the Bono East Region have received one – day training from Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (CSIR- FORIG) on the needs to plant more trees to replace the lost ones.

Speaking at the Stakeholders programme, Deputy Director of Forestry Research Institute of Ghana, *Professor Opuni Frimpong* stated that they will support farmers to fast -growing trees which will serve as as a resource to produce sustainable charcoal and firewood.

According to him the demand for charcoal in Ghana is still rising and it’s production mainly takes place by logging hard wood tree species from natural forests which leads to deforestation and forest degradation.

He said planting trees will support the development of sustainable and efficient charcoal production.

Atebubu Amantin Forestry Manager who is in charge of Sene West *Mr. Emmanuel Omani* also called on the residents to take the project serious by planting trees as our lands are gradually turning into dessert.
