Cheers to a Legend: Ghana Drunkards Association Salutes Fallen Highlife King, Daddy Lumba

The Ghana Drunkards Association has expressed deep sorrow over the reported passing of legendary highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba (DL), describing his death as a monumental loss to the entertainment industry both in Ghana and beyond.

In a heartfelt statement signed by its president, Moses Onyah, the association paid glowing tribute to the iconic artist, praising his immense contributions to Ghana’s music landscape, particularly in championing the highlife genre. The group noted that Daddy Lumba’s extensive catalog, spanning over 200 songs, captured the essence of Ghanaian life, touching on themes of love, politics, faith, and everyday struggles through gospel, rap, reggae, and classic highlife.

“DL is truly the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT),” the statement read. “His music resonated with people from all walks of life and remains a cultural treasure for Ghanaians worldwide.”

The association fondly referenced Lumba’s 1999 hit Eko Den, in which the artist appeared to urge society not to be quick to judge individuals who drink. They described the message as “empathetic” and “timely,” adding that it reflected his deep understanding of human nature and social dynamics.

In extending condolences to the bereaved family, especially his wife and children, the association offered prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time. It also urged its members to observe moderation in their grief, as a mark of respect to the late highlife legend.
