The Honourable Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has been officially honoured with the prestigious title of Honorary Ambassador of Agenda 2063 by the Office of the Special Envoy to the African Union (AU).

This recognition celebrates Hon. Opoku’s exceptional leadership and Ghana’s bold strides toward agricultural transformation, food sovereignty, and rural empowerment, key pillars of the African Union’s development vision, Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.

The award was conferred in recognition of Ghana’s transformative agricultural policies and initiatives focused on:

Investing in irrigation and mechanisation

Advancing food security across Ghana and West Africa

In his remarks, Hon. Eric Opoku stated: “This honour is not for me alone, but for every Ghanaian farmer who rises at dawn to feed the nation, every extension officer working in our communities, and every policymaker who believes in the power of agriculture to change lives. Together, we are shaping a future where Africa feeds herself and exports abundance to the world.”

He reaffirmed Ghana’s continued commitment to continental agricultural development and sustainable rural transformation, pledging deeper collaboration with African nations and global partners to deliver on the AU’s Agenda 2063,particularly Aspiration 1: A prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development.

This continental honour also reflects the collective dedication of Ghana’s agricultural ecosystem, from smallholder farmers and agripreneurs to local governments and international stakeholders — who are working tirelessly to shift agriculture from subsistence to a driver of national prosperity and job creation.

Under Hon. Opoku’s leadership, Ghana is emerging as a beacon of innovation and resilience in agriculture, even amidst global disruptions and climate challenges.

As the country continues to lead on policy reforms, investment attraction, and inclusive growth in the sector, this honour positions Ghana as a model for agricultural excellence and continental transformation.
