MTN Ghana Launches GHS 9.7m Digital Power Hub at UDS-Northern Region Set for STEM & AI Revolution
The MTN Ghana Foundation has kicked off construction of a groundbreaking GHS 9.7 million Digital Innovation and Student Resource Centre at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale,an ultra-modern facility expected to turbocharge STEM education, digital literacy, and AI training for thousands of young people across the Northern Region.
The sod-cutting ceremony marked a major leap in MTN’s mission to develop a tech-ready generation. Slated for completion in just eight months, the new centre will operate as a high-impact digital powerhouse, offering practical learning, innovation space, and advanced ICT training for both UDS students and learners from surrounding communities.
Designed as a next-generation learning hub, the facility will feature a cutting-edge computer laboratory housing 70 high-performance laptops, robotics equipment, AI learning tools, and seamless video conferencing technology linked to the UDS Nyankpala campus. Learners will also access globally competitive digital courses through the MTN Skills Academy, ranging from coding and AI to digital research and innovation. The centre will be open to all qualified youth,not only UDS students who enroll for digital programmes.
Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager of the MTN Ghana Foundation, emphasized the critical need to equip young Ghanaians,57% of whom are under 25,with future-proof skills.
“What we are launching today is not just a building—it is a bold investment in Ghana’s digital future,”
he stated.
“This centre will groom creators, innovators, and leaders who can compete confidently in the fast-evolving digital economy.”
Kuzoe stressed that despite Ghana’s internet penetration rate of 69.8% and national digital initiatives such as the One Million Coders programme, many young people still lack access to modern, hands-on ICT facilities—making this project a vital intervention for the region.
Professor Muniru Alhassan, Dean of the UDS Nyankpala Campus, praised the MTN Ghana Foundation for its consistent support for education and skills development. He described the upcoming centre as a transformative academic engine that will sharpen students’ technical abilities and social intelligence.
“The job market is shifting rapidly, and this facility gives our students the practical edge they need to thrive,”
he said.
“It will drive innovation, research, teamwork, and real-world problem solving.”
The initiative aligns with the MTN Ghana Foundation’s broader education agenda, which focuses on expanding ICT infrastructure, improving learning environments, and empowering youth nationwide. The Foundation has a strong track record of educational investments, including scholarships, digital learning tools, and infrastructure upgrades.
Once completed, the UDS Digital Innovation Hub is expected to emerge as one of the Northern Region’s most influential youth development centres-accelerating STEM growth, AI capability, digital creativity, and technological excellence across the region.
