MTN Ghana has once again positioned itself at the heart of Ghana’s entrepreneurial transformation, declaring bold commitments to fuel SME growth through cutting-edge digital solutions and strategic partnerships at the 2025 SMEGA Awards in Accra.

The MTN SMEGA Awards has evolved into a premier national stage that spotlights SMEs whose innovation, resilience, and leadership continue to fuel Ghana’s economic engine. The platform has supported hundreds of businesses with mentorship, brand visibility, and access to vital digital and financial tools.

As headline sponsor, MTN Ghana joined policymakers, diplomats, corporate executives, and entrepreneurs to honour the trailblazers sustaining Ghana’s job market and economic strength.

Delivering her address, Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Ghana, praised the relentless drive of Ghanaian entrepreneurs.

“This ceremony celebrates the real builders of our economy. With SMEs contributing over 70% to Ghana’s GDP and creating millions of jobs nationwide, MTN remains committed to providing MSMEs with the digital backbone needed to scale, innovate, and compete beyond Ghana. When SMEs thrive, Ghana thrives,” she stated.

She reiterated MTN’s ongoing investment in SME-focused interventions such as MTN Adwumapa, MoMo for Business, the SME Accelerator Programme, and the SME Business Clinics-initiatives crafted to deliver robust digital access, financial inclusion, and practical business development support.

India’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Shri Manish Gupta, who served as Special Guest of Honour, applauded Ghana’s strong entrepreneurial culture. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening trade and technology cooperation, announcing plans to double India-Ghana trade from USD 3 billion to USD 6 billion over the next five years.

Kwesi Ofori Jnr, Head of SMEGA Ghana, expressed profound appreciation to MTN and supporting partners. He revealed that more than 67 SMEs have already benefited from digital and technical capacity-building under MTN’s partnership. He also announced new pathways for Ghanaian SMEs to break into markets across India, China, and Europe.

The climax of the night was the celebration of Rita Aku-Shika Diabah, CEO of Yesli Ice, who swept the prestigious Overall Best SME of the Year award. Her business excellence shone through as she claimed three additional awards-SME Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, Production Innovation, and Food and Beverage.

A total of 21 remarkable SMEs from diverse sectors were also honoured for their outstanding contributions to business innovation, resilience, and national development.
