MTN Ghana Mobilises Mampong Residents, Secures 90 Pints of Blood to Boost Healthcare

Leading telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has intensified its commitment to saving lives with a successful blood donation exercise in Mampong, collecting an impressive 90 pints to support local hospitals.

The initiative, held at Dufie Square as part of the vibrant AshantiFest, drew massive community participation, with close to 100 residents turning up to contribute to the life saving effort.

Medical officers were deployed as early as 6:00 am to screen donors and ensure their fitness. Beyond the blood donation, residents also benefited from free health services, including HIV testing, breast and cervical cancer screening, and eye examinations, further deepening the impact of the exercise.

    Strengthening Emergency Healthcare
Organisers underscored the importance of the initiative, describing it as a critical intervention to address blood shortages and improve emergency response in health facilities across the municipality. The collected units are expected to play a vital role in supporting surgeries and critical care cases.

A representative noted that the overarching aim remains clear:to save lives while strengthening healthcare delivery at the community level.

    Sustaining a Life-Saving Legacy

The Mampong exercise forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader “Save A Life” campaign, which continues to make significant impact nationwide. A similar initiative previously held at the Kumasi Central Prisons provided essential support to the blood bank of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Earlier this year alone, the campaign recorded over 7,000 pints of blood, with strong participation from students across various senior high schools.

    Residents Share Experiences
Some participants shared personal reasons behind their involvement. Yaw Amankwah, a first-time donor, said he felt compelled to donate after witnessing a relative survive due to the availability of blood during an emergency.

Dorcas Ampofo, a trader, also commended the initiative, noting that bringing such opportunities closer to the people makes it easier for individuals to contribute to saving lives.

    High-Profile Attendance

The exercise attracted notable dignitaries, including Dr Frank Amoakohene and Nana Agyakoma Difie, highlighting the significance of the programme.

The event once again demonstrates how cultural celebrations like AshantiFest can be leveraged as powerful platforms for social intervention, improving public health outcomes while fostering community unity.
