Police,MTN Deepen Road Safety Partnership as Drivers Record Zero-Crash Run

MTN vehicle users receive training on traffic laws,digital compliance and responsible driving as Police and DVLA push proactive measures to reduce road crashes

The Ghana Police Service and MTN Ghana have renewed their commitment to promoting road safety,strengthening driver compliance and raising public awareness as part of intensified efforts to reduce road crashes across the country.
The renewed collaboration forms part of a broader road safety and traffic management initiative aimed at equipping corporate drivers with the knowledge and skills required to comply with road traffic regulations and adopt safer driving practices.
The partnership has already recorded encouraging results, with MTN drivers reportedly maintaining a zero-crash record since the initiative was introduced last year.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director in charge of Administration,Research and Training at the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD),disclosed this during a road safety training workshop organised by the MTTD for MTN vehicle users at the company’s Nhyiaeso Main Office in Kumasi.
According to ACP Obeng, the collaboration has contributed significantly to improving vehicle safety standards and responsible driving among MTN drivers.
“Since we did it last year, we’ve seen enhanced safe use of vehicles and maintained a zero-crash record. It’s natural to keep pushing,” he said.
Focus on Driver Compliance
The initiative focuses on training corporate drivers on road traffic laws, defensive and responsible driving practices,vehicle safety and compliance with emerging digital traffic management systems.
ACP Obeng explained that the training also seeks to familiarise MTN drivers with new road traffic regulations and their responsibilities as professional road users.
He said partnerships between law enforcement agencies and corporate organisations were essential to improving road safety,protecting lives and property and promoting more efficient traffic management.
The Police MTTD Director noted that the initiative was also consistent with national efforts to reduce road crashes through education,enforcement and greater compliance with traffic regulations.
DVLA Calls for Corporate Responsibility
The Acting Director of the Inspectorate Division of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA),Kwasi Bonah Otuo Serebour,commended MTN Ghana for prioritising road safety and investing in the training of its drivers.
He observed that the country was gradually moving from a reactive approach to a more proactive road safety system,describing the development as an important step towards addressing the persistent challenge of road crashes.
Mr. Serebour,however, cautioned that road crashes continue to impose a heavy burden on the country through the loss of lives,injuries and destruction of property.
He therefore urged companies and other corporate organisations to make road safety a priority by maintaining high safety standards for their vehicles and ensuring that drivers consistently comply with road traffic regulations.
Training to Reach All Regions
More than 300 beneficiaries are participating in the road safety workshop,which is expected to be replicated in all regional capitals across Ghana.
The Police-MTN partnership is expected to further strengthen driver education,improve compliance with traffic laws and encourage a culture of responsible road use among corporate and commercial drivers.
The initiative,stakeholders believe,will contribute to the broader national campaign to make Ghana’s roads safer and reduce preventable road crashes.
