The Future Must Be Crafted,Not Imported”-Napo At Shoemaking Hub Launch
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency and former minister of education,has launched the Manhyia South Shoemaking Hub Project, aimed at empowering local artisans with skills to secure meaningful employment and improve their economic well-being.
The project seeks to alleviate unemployment among youth in the constituency by providing training and equipping them with skills in shoemaking,he said.
The project targets apprentices and artisans in the shoemaking industry, with 35 apprentices graduating successfully from the program.
Dr. Prempeh emphasized the importance of skills training in making beneficiaries competitive in the global market. He encouraged them to strive for excellence and create products that can compete with the best.
Dr. Prempeh’s commitment to skills development is evident in his previous initiatives,He partnered with the College of Beauty, Arts, and Entrepreneurship to provide demand-driven training in various fields, including makeup artistry, hair technology, and fashion design technology.
In 2023, he funded training for 150 artisans in fashion design, makeup artistry, and computer coding, providing them with tools and equipment to support their start-ups.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s efforts aim to make Manhyia South a beacon of excellence in skills training, equipping beneficiaries with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen professions .
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh emphasized the importance of vocational skills in nation-building, highlighting that skills are the foundation of national greatness. He stated that Ghana’s future will be shaped by what its people build with their own hands, rather than relying on imports. This perspective underscores the significance of empowering individuals with practical skills to drive development and self-sufficiency.
Highlighting on it’s benefits ,Dr. Prempeh stressed that skills are not alternatives but rather the foundation of national greatness.

Dr. Prempeh’s emphasis on building with one’s own hands highlights the importance of self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on external factors.
This message aligns with initiatives aimed at promoting skills development and vocational training in Ghana, such as the launch of the Manhyia South Shoemaking Hub Project. By investing in vocational skills, Ghana can empower its citizens to drive economic growth and development.
On his part,the current member of Parliament(MP) for Manhyia South constituency, Hon Lawyer Agyei Baffour Awuah assured beneficiaries of his support and promised to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor to make the project a success,added that,he project is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of people in the constituency, enabling them to acquire skills, secure decent jobs, and improve their economic well-being.
The project coordinator,Lawyer Mina Antwi-Yeboah stated that,Manhyia South Constituency is poised to become a shoemaking hub in Ghana in next ten years. She again commended the efforts of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the former Member of Parliament for the area. The Manhyia South Shoemaking Hub Project aims to alleviate unemployment among youth by providing training and equipping them with skills in shoemaking.
