Tragedy strikes Kumawu as another community suffers from inadequate resources:

Kumawu, Ashanti Regiin,A raging fire has gutted a family house in Kumawu, leaving its occupants homeless and their belongings completely destroyed.

Eyewitnesses recount that the incident began after loud cries for help drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed to find the house engulfed in thick smoke and flames. Despite desperate efforts by residents to fight the blaze, it quickly grew beyond control, forcing them to call the Ghana National Fire Service for assistance.

Unfortunately, firefighters reportedly arrived late, and by then, the entire building had been reduced to ashes. The landlady is said to have lost more than GHC 35,000 in cash, along with essential household items such as a refrigerator, television, and other valuables.

The delayed response has sparked anger and frustration among residents, who lament that the Kumawu District still lacks a fire tender of its own.

It’s very disturbing that we always have to depend on neighboring districts for help,” one resident said. “If we had our own fire tender here, the damage wouldn’t have been this severe.

The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Michel Gyamfi, expressed similar concerns and called on the government to act swiftly to equip all districts with fire tenders.

“The lack of fire-fighting vehicles is a ticking disaster waiting to happen,” he stressed. “We appeal to the authorities to address this immediately to prevent further losses of life and property.”

Hon. Gyamfi later visited the affected family, offering relief support and helping them secure temporary shelter. The victims, now displaced, are appealing for assistance as they struggle to rebuild their lives.
