The outspoken General Overseer of Open Arms Ministry, St. Sark, has squarely blamed President John Dramani Mahama for the tragic helicopter crash that killed senior state officials on August 6, 2025.
Addressing journalists at a fiery press conference in Kumasi, the controversial preacher condemned the President’s decision to dispatch top government officials to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme.
“What were they going to do in Obuasi? To launch a so-called responsible mining project? That’s nonsense. You can’t fight galamsey with surface mining,” St. Sark charged.
He dismissed the initiative as a “political charade,” likening it to former President Akufo-Addo’s failed Community Mining programme, which he said only ended up legalizing galamsey under a new label.
“There was no wisdom in that trip. For that reason, I blame President Mahama for their deaths,” he declared.
According to St. Sark, true responsible mining can only be achieved through deep mining methods, not surface operations.
“Anyone who claims otherwise is a comedian. What Mahama is doing is a dead elephant on arrival,” he lashed out.
The fiery cleric also accused government of ignoring radical anti-galamsey measures he had previously recommended, which included:
Deploying drones to destroy illegal mining equipment
A shoot-to-kill order against galamsey operators
Burning excavators at unauthorized sites
“None of these have been implemented. I warned the Office of the Spiritual President of Ghana, and if you ignore it, you’ll face the shock of your life,” he cautioned.
Ending on a somber note, St. Sark said the officials who died in the crash had “died in vain,” since their mission in Obuasi would have produced no meaningful results.
“Even if the helicopter had landed safely, their mission would have been useless. They died for nothing,” he concluded.
