Ashanti Region Jubilates Over Dr Amoakohene Appointment As Regional Minister Designate:

The good people of Ashanti regional capital Kumasi and entire populace in Ashanti region started rejoicing immediately after his Excellency John Dramani Mahamah name a renowned medical practitioner and regional secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress,Dr Amoakohene as the new Ashanti regional minister designate.

The appointment has been widely celebrated, with residents lauding the decision as a clear demonstration of President Mahama’s commitment to fostering strong grassroots-focused leadership, youthful inclusiveness and addressing the region’s development needs.

Dr Amoakohene,a proud son of the Ashanti Region and a dedicated stalwart of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is celebrated as a unifier, a visionary leader, and a champion of development. Renowned for his exceptional leadership skills, deep commitment to community empowerment, and unwavering dedication to progress, he has earned the respect and admiration of people across the region and beyond.

Residents in towns such as Asokwa,Bekwai,Atwima areas,Tafo,Obuasi,ejisu and several other towns in the region poured onto the streets, especially the youth with vibrant drumming, singing, and traditional dances to celebrate the news. In Kumasi, the regional capital, the excitement was palpable as youth groups and community members expressed their elation.

Among the jubilant crowd, some traders at some business areas such Kumasi central market, shared their thoughts: “Amoakohene has always been a man of the people. He understands the challenges we face and has what it takes to bring about real change.”

The euphoria was no less palpable in Bekwai where he served at Bekwai government hospital as the medical doctor and community leaders described the appointment as a strategic move to prioritize development in the region. “We are hopeful that Dr Amoakohene will be a strong voice for the Ashanti Region and ensure we get our fair share of national resources,” they said.

Who is Dr Frank Amoakohene?

Dr. Frank Amoakohene is a medical professional and youth leader with expertise in healthcare, governance, and public service. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ghana, a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science degree from UDS, and an MBA from Accra Business School.
Currently the NDC Ashanti Regional Secretary, he has held various leadership roles, including serving as President of NAHSAG and NUGS, where he championed student welfare and advocacy at the national level.

Some social commentators have expressed their deep understanding of the region’s challenges and his close relationship with local communities make him an ideal candidate for the position.

Dr Amoakohene in collaboration with the Ashanti regional chairman, Augustus Nana Akwasi and other regional executives Region, changed the mentality that Ashanti region is the “world bank” of the NPP due to overwhelming Campaign performance during and before 2024 general elections.

He has consistently called for more development projects and government attention. With Dr Frank as the next Regional Minister, expectations are high that the region will see an increased focus on infrastructure, agriculture, jobs and education.

Traditional leaders and other religious leaders have already pledged their support for Dr Frank with chiefs across the region commending Mahama for the appointment.
