The Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Ralph Opoku Adusei, has strongly criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing its administration as the most underperforming government in Ghana’s history when it comes to education.
According to him, the administration led by former President John Dramani Mahama has failed to safeguard the future of the country’s education sector, warning that its policies and management approach risk eroding the gains made over the years.

He made these remarks during the official commissioning and handing-over ceremony of the Queen Elizabeth II Day Nursery Block at Bekwai Mampong,an ageing 72-year-old facility he personally renovated as an old student of the school.
Addressing a cross-section of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, education officials, teachers, pupils, and residents, Hon. Opoku Adusei painted a grim picture of the current state of education.

“The education sector is gradually losing its credibility. If urgent and decisive measures are not taken, the damage caused will deepen and affect future generations,” he warned.
The Bekwai legislator further highlighted the challenges confronting teachers, stating that many are grappling with delays in the payment of their entitlements, poor accommodation, and inadequate logistical support.
“Teachers are at the heart of national development, yet they continue to suffer neglect. Their welfare must be treated as a priority if we are serious about improving education outcomes,” he stressed.
Hon. Opoku Adusei reiterated his personal commitment to advancing education in Bekwai, emphasizing that his intervention in renovating the nursery block reflects his dedication to giving back to the community and improving learning conditions for young children.

On her part, the Bekwai Municipal Director of Education, Madam Leticia Obeng, commended the MP for what she described as a timely and impactful intervention. She noted that the refurbished facility would significantly enhance early childhood education in the area.
She also appealed to other stakeholders, particularly philanthropists and indigenes of Bekwai both home and abroad,to support efforts aimed at addressing the challenges facing the municipality’s education sector.
“Government cannot do it alone. We need collective support to overcome the difficulties confronting education in Bekwai,” she said.
Madam Obeng further urged school authorities and other stakeholders to cultivate a strong culture of maintenance to ensure the longevity of educational infrastructure and sustained benefits for future generations.
The event drew widespread appreciation from the community, with many residents praising the MP for his initiative and commitment to improving educational development at the grassroots level.
