Blaze on the Dusty Road: Four Burnt Alive in Manso Watreso Crash
Head-On Collision Turns Deadly as Motorbikes Erupt in Flames, Leaving Community in Shock
A devastating accident has claimed the lives of four young men in a fiery motorbike collision at Manso Watreso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Monday morning between 9:00 and 10:00 am, when two motorbikes, each carrying two male riders, collided head-on at high speed along the dusty and narrow Watreso road.
Eyewitnesses say the force of the impact was so intense that both motorbikes immediately burst into flames, trapping the riders beneath the wreckage. All four victims were burnt beyond recognition, and none survived the blaze.
“The sound of the crash was very loud. When we got there, everything was on fire. We couldn’t save them—the flames were too high. It was very sad,” recounted Kwame Manu, an eyewitness who rushed to the scene with other residents.
Despite desperate attempts by locals using water and sand to douse the fire, the intense heat made rescue efforts impossible. The smouldering remains of the bikes and the victims left many in the community deeply shaken.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service later arrived to retrieve the charred bodies and control traffic in the area. The deceased have been sent to the St. Martin’s Hospital morgue in Agroyesum for preservation and further investigations.
While the identities of the victims are yet to be officially confirmed, initial reports suggest they were young men from Watreso and Wonipanin A Due.
Preliminary investigations point to overspeeding and reckless riding as the likely causes of the tragic crash.
Community members and local leaders have expressed profound grief and are calling on the government and road safety authorities to intensify public education and enforce regulations, especially targeting commercial motorbike operators, commonly known as okada riders.
“This is a terrible loss for our community. We need urgent interventions to stop these preventable deaths,” said Hon. Kofi Mensah, Assembly Member for the Manso Watreso Electoral Area.
The Amansie South District Police Command has urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue. In the meantime, the community is rallying to support the grieving families of the deceased.
